Outlook Contacts and Word 97 Solution from Hugh Gillespie
This "Find Contacts" template provides an AutoText like interface to Contact information that you have stored in Outlook. It can search not only your own contacts but also another persons contacts folder and a workgroup public folder of contacts if you have Exchange Server installed. Searching can be done by Contact name or Company name. You can even update the Contact's information in Outlook from within Word 97.

WORD 97 "CANNOT ACCESS THE FILE" BUG
Here's how it happens. You copy (or cut) a lot of stuff out of a document, then close the document. Sometime later, you (or somebody else on the network) try to open that document, but get an error message that says "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" or "such-and-such document is in use by another application."

It's a known, and officially recognized, bug. Look at Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q179435. (That is, if you can get on-line to use MSKB. MS desperately needs to do something about lethargic MSKB access. 90% of the time I can't even get connected.) Apparently Microsoft has a fix for the bug - patches to winword.exe and wwintl32.dll - but the solution hasn't been fully regression-tested, so it may cause more problems than it cures.

Do you have a list of Contacts stored in Microsoft Outlook 97© that you can't make use of? When you open the addressbook the wrong addressbook is always on top? You want Contacts but have to change from Personal Addressbook first, every time! Furthermore, only addresses that you used in the most recent session are in the 'quick' list. This nifty Word 97 add-on will help you out.

"Haven't seen this documented anywhere so thought I'd pass it on: I had a graphic in a Word 7 document that was obviously an object which had been converted to a graphic. Clicking on it invoked the WordBasic 124 error as did clicking Edit | Picture from the menu bar. But, when I went to the macro window, selected Word Commands and ran EditPicture, lo and behold the object opened in WordDraw and allowed me to make my edits. The object was probably originally done in either Excel or PowerPoint. Wonder of wonders, once I made the edits and saved the document, the graphic became a WordDraw object. I can click on it and launch WordDraw."

How to Recover a Lost Toolbar - another tip from Jane Warnick
I have had clients who have lost or inadvertently drug their toolbars off the screen. If you can't find one that's checked in the toolbar dialog box, try this: Click to record a macro. With your mouse, grab one of your toolbars and move it to the center of the screen. Stop the recording. Move the toolbar back. Open the macro for editing and replace the toolbar name with the name of the missing toolbar. Run the macro. Magically, the missing toolbar reappears.

* RESENDING OUTLOOK * - Stephen P. Johnson at the University of Wisconsin has a nice little utility that works for Exchange client / Windows Messaging and Outlook to resend a message from the Sent Items folder. You get choices added to your menu to Resend immediately or Resend after you have had a chance to alter the outgoing address or text.

* DEFAULT LANGUAGE WOES in WORD 97 *
Unlike earlier versions of Word - Word 97 defines the default language for the Normal style according to the keyboard setting in Windows 95! That is regardless of what the Normal style is showing as the language. My Computer Company's technical wizard, Peter McDonell reminds us that the easiest solution is to change the Win95 keyboard setting to the correct default language - this will change the behavior of the Normal style and any based on it (and most styles are).
